Explaining The Proverb A Close Shave

Life gives us many things to remember. One of the things as you live longer you will come across is “a close shave”. I’ve had a few close shaves in my life. I remember a time when I first tried to get my driver’s license that I studied so hard to get. My best friend Jan was taking me to the police station to get my drivers license which came with a road test too. I was ready to pass the tests, with flying colors. The test drive, was going to be a breeze that day, for I was ready. What had happened that day instead was a “close shave”. I almost sprained my ankle, running excitedly to the telephone, to answer the call from my friend, to let me know she was on her way so be ready. I almost didn’t make the test at all. This was the beginning of a long list of having “a close shave”. Time goes by mostly peacefully, without much of close shaves. Until the next time it happens. I went about my daily life with appointments, work, and etc. As I park, when I drove I try to find the most expedient way to reach my car and sometimes it meant to jail walk. I never got caught doing it so I thought I lived a charmed life. Little did I know what was going to happen. You got it, “a close shave” with the law-the motorcycle police twice almost caught me jail walking as I went back to my car. These close shaves stopped me completely from jail walking to my car. I started riding the bus to save money. Again I jail walked not to miss the bus. Again, “a close shave” with the law almost getting caught jail walking. I stopped jail walking till today. As I grew up I went to college. College life is hectic with many dead lines to meet and classes to attend for points. You hardly have time for college activities, but you made time to give yourself a break from college studies to enjoy the one time until you work for a life time. Riding the bus and having no computer a student had to use the computer lab who thankfully stayed opened Monday through Thursday till 7: 30PM. I was waiting for my friend to finish up, so we could walk to the bus stop together that night. The campus was deserted, I noticed while I awaited my friend who had just about fifteen minutes to finish up before the computer lab closed. I was by the elevators and it was a dark night with no moon. I searched up and down the campus and there was no one in sight. Out from the shadow where the building had a hiding place that was dark out lurched a man, as dark as the night and he came right towards me. I heard the electric car coming out from the hallway coming towards me. It was the night watch police on the electric car. I was frozen where I stood, as these few seconds ticked by to the evenings event waiting for my friend from the computer lab. The police came by me and talked to me and the would be assailant hid again. Whoosh, the elevator doors opened up and out popped my friend I was waiting for to walk to the bus stop with who had no idea, what the few seconds was like before she came out of the elevators was like. “A close shave” of this kind leaves you happy that there are other people in this world living with you. One last recall of “a close shave” was when I was crossing in the crosswalk to get to the bus stop one day. The light to walk had a busy intersection, with cars making a left turn onto the crosswalk that I crossed that day. Out he raced from nowhere making the left turn onto the crosswalk, where I was walking on to go to the bus stop. “A close shave” flew by me, as I walked back to the middle of the crosswalk to the safety of the meridian to let the driver pass. He acted as if I wasn’t even there as he drove off quickly to his destination. Close shaves such as this where you are so helpless with no barriers to protect you leaves you more determined to live life to the fullest.
